Good to hear your son is progressing Pop!
Buddy of mine also has an early FFR Cobra. It’s still in progress as well but waaaaay behind yours. And he just picked up another one built in 2004 in pieces as well. Maybe that one will be mine one day

we let this fresh built 289 ,with new out of the box carbs sit for 3wks with out starting it,,other day we tried to start it,,ran awful woukd not idle,,would rev up..but not idle,,,,last night son took top of carbs off ,,had to dig and scrap bad gas jelly/jam looking crap out and squirt carb cleaner and clean idle circuit...and floor of bowls..put back together...runs perfect and will idle correctly.....so don't let your motor sit very long at a time....with out some type of gas treatment ...pop

Surprised that happened in 3 weeks time. Did the gas have ethanol in it?

I'm guessing it had ethanol in spite of what the pump said. The find is textbook junkanol.

Was any of this goop in the 5 gallon can? If not, I hope it wasn't residue from a breaking down of seals in the pump/carbs or fuel lines from a possible ethanol contamination, and the 3 week lull gave it time to settle out. :x

the can was clean....I've always thought this station/grocery store was on the shadey side,,I think his pump(s) are in question or his labeling on the pump.....sometimes it seemed I paid for more gas then I got....I can't prove it so I'll not do business with him anymore...the carbs are fixed,so right now..it's shame on him...if I let it happen again.....then it's shame on POP////

Just watched a show on Shelby, it ended with him doing donuts in a parking lot at 85.
He won't be the only one!!,,, 8)

So is it already titled or will it be a 2020 car?

I am watching the Niko Brothers on YouTube rebuilding a burn damaged salvage Factory 5 Cobra, they are going to put a 5.0 out of salvage Mustang they just bought in it, I like the way yours is better with an old school drivetrain more like the original ones.

See Ya,

Looking good Pop! I'll be following along closely. Being 6'6" has always made me look over these, but now I'm thinking about just stretching one 6" or so one day.

Waiting for more . . .
