Ford 'sisters'?

Post by Joe Travers »

Sis drove down to visit today and brought me a lot of pictures from Mom's house she had been keeping. I've never been a camera guy but Mom loved to take pictures. She wasn't fond of my older vehicles, so there were only two of many in the batch. First is a '66 Mustang I bought in '81. Plain-Jane 289/C-4 hardtop w/ factory A/C. Kept it all original w/new paint on the outside. The engine was toast when I bought it, so I dropped in a fresh 289 w/Autolite 4100, headers and dual exhaust. It went in a fire sale in '84. I think my beard was itchy that day, IDK.

Image

Year after I sold the Mustang, I picked up this '71 E-100. 240 engine was toast in it, too. Dropped a fresh 300 in that and did some custom work on it. Swapped it two years later to an old friend for a lime-green '68 Ranchero w/ 289.

Afro Joe. Lolol. Thanks for sharing,, we kinda put ourselves,," outthere" when we
post pics of ourselves.
Had a 74 Club Wagon 250 chassis 302, fmx I think.
Did a great job pulling my trailr n race car.
But the steering,, linkage from hell!!
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

You should see my 1st band pics from early '70s

Pulling the big six was hell!!! Never forget, pulled passenger side door and seat to get cherry picker inside the cab and cinch up the chain as tight as I could. The arm was riding on top door frame when I had the flywheel clear to get it out. Like fighting a bear. May not be preferred method but I got it in same way.

Thanks brother! Wish I had pics of all of them, cool old Fords & Mercs.
If I found one that was affordable, I'd buy it. Many between '74-'98. Most at one time was four, IIRC.
Wasn't dealing, never made a dime. Just loved driving and working on them all. 8)

A bit off-topic but Fords in the family....
Here's Pop's '57 Custom 300 when I was a kiddo playing in the pool down in Key West.

Image

When my brother came along, he sold it and bought a new '62 Galaxie four-door w/ heater delete. Drove it 12 years and handed it down to me, my first car. Should be able to find a pic of it when I visit Sis next time.

Already posted this, but the one that started it all. Grandpa Bob in his '17 T Touring when he got back from WWI in Europe.

Yeah, we are die-hard Ford folks :D

Not a ford sister, but the real deal. This picture was taken in the Summer of 1969. That is my Dad holding me in front of his 65 Cylone.

Neat photo! Makes me feel like a senior member here. In 1969 I had already owned my Cyclone for a year!

Oxidize the paint, add surface rust and throw on a set of crusty Mag 500s
Thanks, Boss! :D

Same colors but mine wasn't nearly as nice. It was a rust bucket out of Port Neches, Tx. down on the Gulf Coast. The owner drove it up here to his cousin's body shop to have it restored but left it in a weed patch and forgot about it. It had 3.03 on the column.

Had an old friend w/ a '65 202 same colors years ago but never see that color now.

I may have posted this before, but that's me working on my first Cyclone, circa 1971. I was almost as proud of the sideburns as I was my Cyclone.

You should do the 50 year challenge and do that same picture today.

I've got some 50 year challenges this year but marriage not cars.
This year will be 48 for the Comet though. Thinking of recreating this pic in front of our first house the fall we bought the Comet for the 50.
