Hi all - need engine block ID help

Post by tonytwotone »

Hi all...hoping to get some help

I just scored an engine block for a great price and I was told it was a 289, and by most appearances, it is a 289.

My question is about one key identifier...the 289 or 302 number cast into the block in the Lifter Valley is missing. It's not been ground away; it's just not there, and I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before.

The casting numbers on the block at C9OE-6015 C if that helps at all

huge thanks in advance for any and all help

C9 is 302 block. I owned a '68 289 years ago that had 302 block w/ 289 crank. Seems Ford dropped the 289 casting when the 302 came out in middle of '68. Probably used every last available 289 crank, knowing Ford practices at that time. The 289 & 302 shared the same head in '68 on the 2V engine. Why 289 compression took a hit that last year.

What Joe said, I’m seeing a 69 302 block. I have the same block in our 66 now.
