New timing chain
New timing chain
Hey fellas, Jim here...slowly but surely getting my comet ready for some street use..I have a mildly warmed over 289 and would like to install a new timing chain set..I've read a few articles and am starting to get a little confused on what to purchase...a good performance timing chain that is top of the line is what I'm after...single roller, double roller, true roller? What do you guys run and prefer? Thanks, Jim Jtgb428...

Re: New timing chain
Always used a double-roller with a cast-iron camshaft sprocket. Don't use the stock chain and nylon cam sprocket. That's the weakest link in a 289.

What Joe said, double roll with a steel gear. Way back in my teenage years during a burnout my stock plastic toothed gear came apart.
