future 347

Post by bluestang67 »

Spun the girl at 6200 taking out a cam lobe , most likely caused by spring bind on the stock 65 heads , springs are green in color . . New cam and lifters and multiple oil changes i couldn't save the bearings , started loosing oil pressure . Actually found small pieces of it on oil pan .
So made a decision to use the 68 block and have a 347 built from a very reputable local builder . He has been doing it for 40 years and been in the race circuit as long , Rick runs a 62 red Catalina that turns 9 sec at 148 mph , 1/4 mile . No Sponsor .

I have no performance experience other then a little read in articles , I was a Machine repairman at Ford working on presses , so he has free reign on parts . We discussed what i want and my plans are for a AW root beer stand car. No plans on drag racing just cruise ins and possibly a show for charity's or 2 . I do want some hello when i hit the the fuel pedal , will i take it out on these country roads and yell , OH HELL YEAH most definitely lol .

We talked about cranks and said a cast will be fine for me , its a scat rotating assembly , well best luck i have had is they had no cast in stock so they upgraded it to steel for 150 more , good deal . Rick orders from the MFG not a distributor .

Heads are the Liberty performance and he said he has used them with no failure on builds . Intake has yet to be decided , I have a Torker 289 on it and a 84 duel plenum in garage . I figured something modern would most likely match up better in performance .

Here is Rick at the 2011 Pontiac Nationals heads up he made the final , he starts more at the 4.21 mark

I see what you did, there  Super Duty?
I give the early '60s Ponchos their due. They're okay in my book.

To clarify not car , but the cam in engine . I replaced with a comp pro magnum , didn't read lash adjustment and did the ole school 3/4 turn pre load . To say valve train was very noisy i got about 2 weeks out of it . Parked when oil pressure started dropping so i hope to save it .
