Exhaust help

Post by Comatt »

Hey guys just wondering what everyone is running for exhaust on there comets. I saw lmp performance sells a true dual kit has anyone installed that kit and used it? Also saw on eBay flowtech had a decent looking set of headers for a good price. Has anyone ever run these and how was the fitment and install? Just running my stock 289. Thanks for the info guys!

Post the Ebay link to the headers, if you don't mind. I went to their website and they show zip for '65 Comets w/ 289.

Have to watch some of those sellers. Some make wild claims.

This is what I get when I run your car through the search filter-

Vehicle Selected:
1965 Mercury Comet 289/4.7L V8 Clear Vehicle

No items match the selected filters.
Broaden your search by clearing the filters or by browsing Exhaust
Still unsure? Ask our experts: 1-866-464-6553

I would suggest giving them a call before you purchase. Not trying to be a pain, just cautious.
Looks like a newer product and you might have struck gold, maybe not. They may clear a column shifter but I would double check.

Joe, not sure why it was not matching on your filters, it goes straight to it when I click it. I was just curious if anyone had used these on there cars.

The exhaust you have link to is for a 66/67 comet which is different than a 65 the 66/67 are the same size as the Fairlanes

The header link says the headers fit 2600 different vehicles?? Doubt they will fit imo

This is the official webpage for Flowtech, owned by Holley-

They claim the headers it will fit a 65 comet but I have my doubts as well. I guess I’ll call Holley and verify.

Update, on the headers. Talked to Holley according to them the only set specific for the comet is there hooker set. 688 bucks, seems pricey but maybe I’m being cheap?

I don't think Hookers will fit column shifter car.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's your only option with a column shift car.
Header fitment is tough enough with a floor shifter in a Comet.
You can mock it all up with PVC pipe to get it right for a template, so you'll know length and radius for your cuts.
Buy the flanges and cut them up to make single tubes that slip into a collector.
