Early 289 long block untouched

Starting to think about more horsepower for the Comet. Would this be a good candidate for a 347?

You really want to jump down that rabbit hole? Need longer cylinder walls than 289 block for the additional stroke for 347.

JMO, what I would do if I had 260 in my car, build a replica Shelby 260 like the ones that powered the Cobras. I would pick up the 289 for the heads alone for the 260 if they are indeed early castings. Ports are larger than 260. Combustion chamber is same volume but closed-type, not open like 260. Valve size is same as 260 to fit the bore. Add 289 4V intake, small carb, cam and headers for 80 horsepower increase (so said Ak Miller). The downside would be the cost of machine work on heads and pistons to pull it off.
