engine cuts out when accelerating
engine cuts out when accelerating
My 260 has had a hesitation in acceleration since I got it. The carb was shot and has been replaced and since then it runs/starts/idles great overall, but the hesitation still remains. It doesn't matter of I'm at a complete stop or going down the freeway. If you get on the pedal it'll cut out a little, but if you hold it there or press through it, it revs back up and keeps on going just fine. It doesn't do it all the time either, but probably 50% of the time. From a stop it will almost feel like the engine has cut out completely, but as quickly as it cuts out it revs back up and gets going. Any suggestions?

Check the accelerator pump. Hold the choke plate open and press the accelerator by hand. Do you see two strong squirts of gas going into the carb?
If not, then the pump may have a hole/be ripped.
If it squirts fine, maybe the float bowl level is too low?

Re: engine cuts out when accelerating
Well, I located what the problem was, the fuel filter needed to be changed, it wasn't completely clogged up, but it was close. Some of the lines had trash in them, found one that was dry rotted, and another that had collapsed, and the nylon sock in the gas tank was clogged.

Glad to hear it, now you're down the road. Just in time for Spring/Summer.
