Does anyone know what casting number(s) I should be looking for to find a period correct C4 for my K Code Caliente?

Thanks!

I have one said to have come from a 65,haven't seen the casting number on it, it has a c4-- cast number on the pump, which that makes me think at least some 64s had a c4 cast number too. when you say period correct do you mean exact same year or just close? where are you located? this one that I have is for sale.

I'd like to find one from a 1964. What's the number on yours? I guess it's on the tail housing?

On the side of the main body just above or near the shifter should be some casting numbers to help identify it. Should be a tag under one of the actuator bolt heads on the right side to identify the trans.

Thanks, Ron! That's a big help. I talked to a guy at a junk yard today and he didn't know where to look.

A 64 V8 trans is going to have a 5 bolt bell housing and that oddball valve body where 1,2,3 full range drive is in the middle position.

The bellhousing can be swapped on an early c4 to a 6 bolt easily enough to fit a 6 bolt block. Same goes with the valve body which can be replaced by a 67 c4 valve body to eliminate the 'Green dot' function.

Good info Comechero, The engine in my 64 Cyclone when I bought it was from a 66 Mustang. The trans was the 64 original but the bell was swapped. I sold the engine and trans as I was starting from scratch and building a new 289 and trans. A guy offered me a very good sum for them. They went into a 66 Falcon. My trans guy said a late c4 was tougher and he had a good core. I later regretted not having my 64 tailshaft as they ARE different. It all worked out as I made a tougher and better mount. Live and learn. Nowadays when I hear someone who is supposed to be an expert say "they're all the same" the hair on the back of my neck stands up.

I emailed about a transmission out of state and was told the number on the tag is RCWY 2604C27B1. How can I cross-reference that number to see if this is the transmission I need? It's not the number format that I see people talking about in forums that starts with C4 or C5, etc. Thanks!!
