The engine looks too modern, or maybe just the valve cover.

When did 'Power By Ford' script first appear? I'm thinking of the slanted script around '67-'68.
Block script a little later? Say the '70s?

typical engine swap with 'drop in' engine 10-15 years newer
.
good catch- the intake manifold on early Falcon sixes (Comets too) is more tubular than later 'flat top' manifold log. Also the Carb adapter has a blocked off EGR port , probly early 70's (Maverick/Comet). And - the "Carter YF" wasn't used intil late 60's early 70's .
.
the most 'Unicorn" of Comet's are Wagons, even made 2 Door Wagons., and of course Comet was not VIN badged as "Mercury' Comet until 1962. 60/61 were separate Ford division. After Edsel folded, Mercury/Lincoln/Edsel dealers became Mercury - Lincoln - Comet Dealers until '62.
