63 comet cant open trunk

My step daughter inherited a 1963 comet convertible from her dad when he passed. The key cylinder is gone and there are some cables inside, 1 of them her dad used to open the trunk but a guy that was going to work on the car for her yanked on the cable and broke it. I was wondering if there is another way to open the trunk.

Take out the back seat and crawl in.

Not going to get into trunk on convertible, no big opening. Try a screwdriver in the lock hole to turn the “catch”

Didn't even notice it was a convertible. But then again I have never seen what was behind the back seat of one anyway
So maybe with the cylinder gone a long standard blade screwdriver should be able to open it.
