Pretty amazing colour! Id want to be able to control the the highlights as in the way they sweep if the are present.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Hard to tell in my picture but that is close, maybe a little lighter, to the color of my Cyclone. When the sun hits it the metallic really pops.

I removed the axle from my '63 Comet. I'm going to clean it up and paint it. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions.

1. Is there anything I should do to it while its out? It did not have a fill plug in it. Must have fallen out over the years. I didn't really try and decode the tag but it looks like the original.
2. Should that little hole be there. It's about the diameter of a pencil. I took a picture of it.
3. Should I paint it with POR 15, or something like Acrylic Alkyd Enamel?

Thanks!

Now is the time to check the brakes, axle bearings, seals, and any leaks around the center section. The hole is for the vent, the housing must have a way to breathe. It looks like it has a 2.50 (?) gear.

Ok I will. Thanks. So I don't need to pull the cover off the pumpkin? Just look for any leaks? How do I check if its a 2.50? And is the 2.50 good?

There is no cover, the gear set is removable as a unit. No ned to remove it if the housing did not have any signs of a leak before you cleaned it. A 2.50 is a hiway gear, not for quick acceleration. It should be fine for you unless you plan to do stop light drag racing.
Also now is the time to make sure the parking brake cables are in good operating condition.

Technically that vent hole should have a fitting installed with a hose routed up high.

I believe it says 3.25. & possibly a 3L.25,which would be a limited slip. 325 is a good all around gear. the 3 is right under the W.

Yes I can see the 3.25. Limited slip means that both hubs don't really spin together? Like when I roll one hub the drive line might spin but the other hub doesn't spin. And then when you apply power both hubs engage? I guess what I'm saying is when I roll one tire around and the other tire doesn't spin that doesn't mean something is wrong in the gears? Sorry that's probably confusing.

How were your brake lines routed? They should have routed into a banjo fitting that screws into that vent hole in the top of your axel with a vent hose (gray in picture) that goes up into a hole in the rear cross member, held in with a clip.

The '63 260 cars have 3.25 gears, open differential. Verify axle code on warranty plate, should be 4.
Yep, the hole is for the vent tube & brake hose/line block.

I see thanks! The rear brake lines were not hooked to anything. The brake lines were just sitting there above the axle. They both had male ends so I assumed someone had used a coupler to join them together.
