Removing Body from Frame?
Removing Body from Frame?
Just wondering if anyone has ever removed the body from the frame on a 63 Comet? Looking under the car it does not look possible, but thought I would ask!
Thx

Re: Removing Body from Frame?
You need to read about unibody construction used by Ford for the Comet, Falcon cars. It will explain that there is no frame and why.
I see this is your first post. Welcome to the site hope you hang out.

Go to the build threads in this section and check out a full-body restoration. All of these Comets are unibody, as Fred mentions. A lot of guys here have done those restorations and did a heck of a job snapping pictures. There is no better reference point than right here. Dig around and check 'em out.

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments. Forum appears to be very helpful
My 63 convertible, for the most part is not bad for rust. Someone changed the Ivy gold interior to red and silver. I am putting it back to the Ivy gold. It’s going to look sharp! Just waiting to send it in for blasting.

Re: Removing Body from Frame?
"Subframes" are usually welded to body shell and at the 'torque boxes'. repairs basically remove or replace the frame-like parts from the body that hold the important stuff - Engine, suspension, seat belts... -
Subframe connectors 'connect' the smaller subframe parts usually welded to body shell and at the subframes. Usually used to re-enforce car for HiPerformance or engine power upgrades, can also help stiffen up a compromised body shell. 60+ year cars can often have rust, damage or poor repair related 'compromises'...
' had a Comet that had the frame separating from the decaying corpse of the body .
. . .
have fun

Car looks to be very solid from here
The real story is the undercarriage. Did you put the car on a lift for inspection?
If the bottom looks as good as the top, you found a great car!

Great find!!
The pic reminds me of Saskatchewan where I grew up, great farming area.
Watch your dog run away for 3 days, so flat!

Well, not too far off Fred, central Alberta near Red Deer. Only see the dog for the first day!
Re: Removing Body from Frame?
We have a farmer guy on here from the Lloydminster area too.
Red 64 Caliente, user name Redhotcomet. My 64 was originally sold in that area.
I think you'll enjoy the layed back attitude here should you decide to stay.
