Hood Bumpers

Post by pfleuret »

Car was missing these. Every place I looked for 1963 bumpers had a type that screwed into the top of the fender. But what is needed is a kind that pops into holes in the hood. Finally found the right part at Auto Krafters.

Thanks for posting this, Pat. Mine are missing as well.
I replaced the bumpers on the rad support but missed this.

And thanks for posting that, John. Yes, same part #.
Fixing to order a trunk mat and Auto Krafters is out of stock but old Mel has 'em. 👍

Monkey see, monkey do

Helped level up the hood mo' better. Need to adjust the hood hinges to finish up the job.
Are bumpers installed on the bottom corners of your deck lid? I have a pair but they seem to be incorrect.

Didn’t think to look before! A hole on each side looks same as the hood holes.

This one is a mystery to me. Falcon Parts says they screw into those two holes but the one's I got from Melvins has a nut attached. :?
I've either lost my mind or they don't belong there. No access to install them.
Googled up a lot of images of Falcon and Comet trunks. I see a few on Falcons but not on Comets.
Melvins says they fit both :?

To install the hood bumpers I put a punch in the hole in the rubber and pushed hard, that elongated the tail part and it popped in. Looks like those round ones would go on the same way. No idea which is the right one though.

Too small, John. Here's a pic of '63 Falcon for reference-

Image

Thought the bolt may thread into the sheetmetal but diameter is too small, as well. There is no access to install a nut on the back side to mount the bumper :?

I applied a squirt of silicone spray to the teat and pushed in the hole w/ a Allen wrench same diameter to expand, like you did.

Eckler also shows the round kind with a rubber tail. I’m thinking that is likely the right thing.
