Mercomatic 2-spd Trans kit info - ***SOLVED****

Post by MY63COMET »

So I'm looking to have the seals and gaskets replaced on my 63' Comet with original 2-speed Mercomatic. My Comet has 75k miles on it and I'm thinking the seals/gaskets are original. It runs fine, just looking to stop any leaks.

Have any of you done this in the past.

What seal and gasket kits will I need?

Any place you can recommend that sell the parts I need?

Also, any idea if this trans has a modulator?

Thanks for any info,
Doug in NC

If it is shifting ok just remove the pan and clean the filter with brake cleaner or gas. (not replaceable). For this you'll just need a pan gasket.
Is it leaking anywhere else? If it is, I've used this guy several times for rebuild parts. Very good guy with all your parts.

Here's the pan gasket

Refill with type F Fluid.

Thank you Bruce. I should have mentioned. Yes, I had the pan gasket done already.
Months later I saw a small puddle under the car. I took it back to where I had the pan gasket done to have them look at it again.
They said the pan is fine, but there is a leak at the tailshaft and also some sort of tube where trans fluid is coming out of and dripping down onto the top of the pan and collecting around the lip of the pan.
Thank you for the input and parts links.

So I think I found a site that sells the seals for my 63' Comet, at least if its the same as the Fordomatic.
Would my 2-speed Mercomatic be a SMALL case or Medium case?
Looking at a service manual on line I believe the trans model would be code PCM-F for my 170 cu in engine.
Thanks for any help,
Doug

Hi,

That "tube" you mention is the breather. If fluid is coming out of there the trans is over serviced.
