Are you going to keep it front wheel drive, or are you going to make it rear wheel drive?

COMETBOSS;WOW;that would be a lot of work to convert to front wheel drive,it would require some serious fabrication, get as much from the donor car as possible!!I've heard of people using that SHO engine in a rear drive setup,I believe the Ford Aerostar trans, not sure if they had a 5-speed, bolts up to that engine to make it a rear drive setup.GOOD LUCK , ROY.

Would like to have front wheeel drive utilizing all front end of SHO.. cutting down CV joints to shrink width. Of SHO to fit Comet.

That's gonna be hard with the width of the SHO. Here is a thread to a guy using that engine in a rearwheel drive application.

HEy Boss !!,, thanks for the link. Always liked that engine and was the dream power plant for the Model A I was building.
There is a very nice Henry J that i believe is here in BC CAnada with that setup.

YES that would be cool,,,but I was at a car show ,this GUY drove up in a T-BUCKET,his work was 2nd to none, everything was top notch, until it came to the engine,it was a 2.3 4cyl,it looked so out of place, with the big rear tires and all,it just didn't have the right balance, least wise, thats the way me and my buddy's looked at it.but it was well built, gotta give him that...pop..jmo

Front wheels are too close to the front end for a fwd layout to work on these cars. Only 1 fwd layout iknow of have the engine behind the axle. The toyota iq

There are 3 that i know of that have a longitudinal engine and fwd. this puts the axle dead under the engine

The SHO engine has always been one of those engines that just look neat. Quite a few years back when Crites was getting all kinds of print on his Lightning-Bolt Fairlane project, we were contemplating putting one in a 64 Fairlane . It would have been rear wheel drive, I can't remember what tranny we were planning on using, but there were ones available that would have worked. Unfortunately, I sold the car before that ever materialized. It was going to be called a SHO-BOLT! :D Cary

Cool name SHO Bolt... It's a bad ass motor.. wanted to transplant that in my 63 comet so bad.. but came to my senses.. might as well drop a 5.0 liter if I am fuel injecting it anyways... It would have been very unique but then.. to much to fabricate for the wow.. sold the motor and while car for a nickel..

I am extremely experienced with SHO engines. it would be a good swap, the big issue is that you have to make a 3/8" Spacer for where the intake runners attach to the intake of the heads to raise the upper runners high enough that the throttle body does not hit the timing belt cover. I am pretty sure ( it has been a couple years) that the A4LD is a matchup for a trans.
