Looks good, Loman! Are you planning to high-temp paint them or get them coated?

Jim, I plan on painting them. Too many other things to spend money on right now.

Today I finished mocking up 7 of 8 header tubes. However # 5 is kicking my butt because of the oil filter. Right now, I'm thinking of 2 options. 1 is to use a remote oil filter adapter and that will cost money. 2nd option is to notch the big square frame mount from the crites crossmember kit. Since I'm planning on using motor plates that is the probably the way I will go. I think i will have couple more cans of thinking juice and sleep on it. Maybe tomorrow with fresh eyes will provide anew idea.

When I built my Cleveland headers for my 65, I used a Canton remote oil filter adapter and a remote mount as well. I think I was around $100 in the pair. I can dig them out if it helps. Here's a pic from during fab work.

New day and fresh eyes made a difference. A friend came over and after a little reconfiguring and some trimming of the Crites engine mounting plates the headers are now all mocked up. I'll post a few pics in the near future.

I finished welding up the headers this weekend. I only need to shorten them just a bit to help give more room to put collectors on. We also assembled the bottom end of the 390.
Next couple things on the project list is to make the front motor plates, decide on and buy heads, and rebuild a transmission.

Nothing new, I just added a picture of the short block.

A little update but not much progress. A used edelbrock single plane streetmaster 4 bbl was purchased the other day from Craig's List. A B&M Pro stick shifter was had at a swap meet. The best part, we purchased Trick Flow heads for the 390. I also emailed four cam companies on cam recommendations a couple of weeks ago, but only 1 has responded. Had to wait a couple of weeks, but the drivers side front motor plate was finally made the other day. And finally, I made a template for the passenger side yesterday so I need to get that off and made next.

Another update. I'm still waiting on the second motor plate, hopefully soon. In the meantime, I mocked up the swap meet shifter with the trans on the workbench and made sure everything works. I also took the short shaft C6 trans and my spare long tail shaft and parts to the trans shop yesterday to be rebuilt. Rocker shafts, lifters, and cam were also ordered yesterday. In a couple of weeks we should have everything to assemble the motor so we can measure for push rods. One piece at a time, just like Johnny Cash.

Just make sure you keep all 4 headlights!

I'm watching close, a good friend has a LOW miles 390 in a 4 door Galaxie he offered me. Would love an FE in the next project.

Looking good.

Received camshaft yesterday, and crew chief picked up trans today. I think we now have everything to start putting the rest of motor together.
