Respectfully, got to disagree. For a couple of reasons.

First is body/paint is huge with classic cars. Probably the biggest expense in a build, in time and money. Smart buyers understand this and buying a car with nice body/ paint more times than not is cheaper and quicker than buying one and having the body/ paint done. IMO this car has outstanding body/paint, lines/gaps, and body trim. We all know what it takes to find good trim/chrome for a 64/65.

Second is rarity. A lot of people are now looking for non mainstream cars. Pulling into a car cruise with a cool classic that is the only one there, compared to pulling in with a classic and parking it with 4 to 6 or more other cars the same year /make/ model has value.

For example you can search Mecum and they give you results from their auctions from 2007 to present. If you search for a mainstream car like a 64/65 Mustang you get 980 results, in the last 11 years 980 64/65 Mustangs ran thru Mecum. If you search for 64/65 Comet only 55 ran thru Mecum in the same 11 years. And out of the 55 only 2 were 64 Cyclones. The black one in this thread ran thru Mecum twice. Last year it sold for 37,950, and yesterday it brought 40,700. The other 65 Cyclone ran thru in 2015 and brought 71,000. There are just not that many out there for sale which does affect price.

Same time period four 65 Cyclone's ran thru(not counting AFX/BFX cars). Last one bringing 56,000. JMO but I am thinking if someone wants a nice 64/65 Cyclone this is just the new price of admission.

I see cars a lot of cars that have this much money in them or more that are no where near as nice or desirable. For the most part, car guys are pretty smart, I think better chance than not the guy that bought this knows what he was buying. And would bet he is going to enjoy it.

I agree with LOU...the seller had a car for sale,,he had a price,the buyer wanted it and was willing to give that price...and I re-read the info on the car and it was just like it was decribed in the info,it never was tried to be passed off as a HI-PO cyclone,the 289 was brought up 289/271 specs,,,in this area where I live my comet is the only one around and it's been that way for better part of 20 yrs,,,this area is over run with 'stangs and those gosh awful camoros ,,,a lot of rat rods are getting popular so we built RUSTY,,it has all the patina and rust paint you can stand,plus it's a hard-top 64 comet,so it stands way out where ever we take it...we hear it's different often !!…..my red comet wouldn't bring that large amount of money,,but what a buyer on my comet would be trying to buy from me is the memories,and they aren't for sale....and they are many,,the passenger side of the front seat fits GLENDA...

Like you guys said it had to find a very nice 64 & 65 cyclone with the paint and body in good shape. They are finally bring the price they should for the rarity of a very nice one.

Yea I read it the same way, a kcode 289 rebuilt to 271 hipo specs. Think the other 64 Cyclone in the search had a 289 built to 271 hipo specs. Just from what I have read on this forum, I could never see you selling your comet. It would shock the $h!* out of me. I have never had that kind of attachment to a car. Hopefully when I get done with mine it will be a keeper.

LOU,not so much attached to the comet,,but to the memories the car represents....my son and I were building his mother's 56 ford ,that project was 3and a half yr deal and we were wanting a break from it,I had owned the comet for sometime,,,,it was just sitting...son said lets build something else and walk away from this 56,,I said fine with me..heck lets redo this comet,,so we gave ourself 90 days to redo the comet ,,so that's what we did and got back on the 56,,,,but it also is the miles me and GLENDA together have put on it,,we have been on I power tour as far as LINCOLN,NEB and back in the 90's we drove it ON the ford pwr tour that ended in bowling green,kentucky,,all in that comet,,,,trouble free might I add,,,so OL POP can't put a price on my memories,,,there fore the comet ain't going anywhere,,,,YA KNOW !! come to think of it,your correct,,,POP is very attached to the ole red ride thank you and good luck on your build....POP
