I got a little more done on the Comet.
First, I painted the front sheetmetal with Eastwood chassis black and ran my brake lines.

Then I painted the floors and firewall, trunk, and inside the front fenders with RED bedliner. I painted inside the front fenders because with the hood open they are visible because there are no inner fender panels.

Next is to paint the roll bars and dashboard. Then the car will go to the bodyshop for paint work.

I've thought about this a lot for floor spruce-up on my car. All panels are original and rust free except a very small area (<1 sq.in.) in the corner of driver's side front floor. A cut out and small welded patch should fix it and bedliner would protect the floors from the elements.

The body is going to be bright white.
I plan on stitching up a black rubber floor mat for the front feet and firewall area.

The guy I met in the rehab hospital and his friend Dave with the '62 are in Palmdale I am pretty sure, I lost his contact information thriough all of this however I guess PalmdaLE IS PART OF OR NEAR LA?

Hey Mike yes Palmdale is about 60 miles north of the city of LA, but still inside of LA County.

Got my Cyclone up and running.
Didn't realize my last post was so long ago and went to page 4. Sorry.

Got the car painted. It was in bodyshop hell for 7 months and the end product isn't that great. It'll do. I do not at all understand car painters. I do, however, understand why guys learn to do this at home.
There's lots to building an entire car from a disassembled shell and a pile of tubes and parts. I have the highest admiration of those that have the tenacity to follow through.
I installed the Crites bumpers and brackets and used aluminum carriage bolts. Installed the factory parking/turn signals into them. had them painted light gray at Maaco.
Bought a new parchment colored steering wheel because it was kind'a-sort'a brown looking. I'm too cheap to restore my original Cyclone wheel.

The quad dual intake on the 428 is VERY snappy. Any thought of bog or stumble from over carbing is not happening. I suppose 11.5:1 compression and the Pertronix HP ignition box is helping.
Not quite finnished but got it out to take pics for the classic car insurance, and to do burnouts in front of my house.
Looking for a stock hood in SoCal. Anyone?

Looks great, body guys are different. That is what makes so many of us try to learn the craft.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

I'm still looking for a stock hood. If anyone within a thousand miles has a good one I'll come and get it. I'm in the Los Angeles area. (661)886-4804

Finished the interior of the Comet. Had a custom headliner made for it that would fit over the roll bar. My car originally had the cardboard headliner. It was warped and nasty, the plastic rails that held it up were broken, and there was no saving it.
I put Eastwood X-Mat insulation on the firewall, trans tunnel, floor, and under the headliner. Used Ebay Killzmat in the doors. Bought some thin (1/8" thick) rubber floor mat from Home Depot to use instead of carpet.
Bought some Scat low back seats in RED. They sit kind of high but seem to be good quality.
Had the rear seat reupholstered to match the front and a package tray made.
Bought some RED door panels off of Ebay. Took some finagling but got them on. New handles from Bob Drake. Installed Falcon Sprint arm rests. The stock Comet ones are pretty boring and the Sprint rests have "zippy" stainless trim.
Mounted my Captain America tach on the dash. A new dash pad too.
Had the stainless trim around the outside of the windshield polished and had a new windshield installed. Had my rear glass reinstalled.
Put new sill plates and had Mrs.-T make some Mercury Man labels on the computer to stick into the squares where the blue oval would normally go.
The radio delete and heater control delete panels were found on Ebay kind of by accident. I like 'em. The antenna delete on the fender is a rubber plug because I don't actually know what the factory one looks like.
Lots of stuff to do still but the Comet runs and drives, and has insurance and registration.
The quad-dual is very responsive but getting a happy idle is challenging. I'll get it sooner or later.
