Doug's 65 Cyclone build
Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build
My issue is that I saved the factory Cyclone seats and have purchased exact factory replacement upholstery for the seats. I purchased the foams 2 years ago and further research has determined that they will not work with my seat/upholstery combo. My upholstery vendor had a line on possible correction but the best option to date appears to be the link that Jim posted, thanks Jim. I will be calling them today.
On the progress front I finally got the correct interior dash single stage and the correct vinyl dye for the interior, and I have been painting the interior hard surfaces with the single stage and the dashpad, armrests and AC vents with the Sem vinyl dye. The bucket seat hinge covers are painted with the single stage to match the hard surfaces. The color combo is dark gray carpets, lighter gray dash & hard surfaces and lighter gray yet for the vinyl surfaces less the seat upholstery, which is white, the color the car was built with. The car exterior and engine bay will be painted the same red color as my 67 Barracuda as the car was built Rangoon Red, but my red is better! The new Idit steering column and stock red steering wheel are now painted the middle gray color.

I'm confused. I thought the only original 65 Comet red was Carnival Red.

Rangoon Red was the Ford name, Carnival Red the Merc. Same code, same color.Jims65cyclone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 10:02 pmI'm confused. I thought the only original 65 Comet red was Carnival Red.

I did something similar to my clutch pedal on my 65. Works very smoothly, you'll be happy with that.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

Looks good, did you get a kit for the conversion? Or did you piece it together yourself?
I have recently bought some roller front steering parts from opentracker and seen they had some other roller products for clutch pedal and Z bar.
Nice upgrade!

Lou: I bought all my front suspension from John at Opentracker. He provided the Scott Drake kit C5ZZ-2478-RBMK for the clutch bearings when I asked for it when I ordered his modified Z-bar for my stock clutch linkage with the Borgeson PS conversion.
My current problem to solve is the e-brake cable routing through my subframe connectors. I have new cables and I saw a photo of a tube welded through the subframe connector somewhere on this site, have to find it again. I also have to solve the e-brake linkage assembly as I have blasted and painted all the component parts and as it is integral with the transmission crossmember and transmission mounting assembly. Lots of homework to do today! DM Edit: still looking for the rubber donut and washer kit for the transmission mount per the last photo I posted:-)

Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build
Front e-brake cable woes!! Routing my new front e-brake cable today I found it is too long. 52" long of black outer casing, no way works. I have been searching for 3 hours for the correct cable but no luck. I measured the length I think I need to be between 42" and 44" long. I am routing per the factory service manual, so that should be ok. Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: Doug's 65 Cyclone build
Jim: After studying what I had, I used parts from the installation kit that came with the seatbelts. I found the correct size washer from my stash and welded the nut to the washer. Then I drilled a 1" hole in the metal flange so the nut could go to the inside of the flange metal leaving a nearly flush surface. Then I welded the washer to the car. I remodeled 3pt. seatbelts into my Barracuda after the headliner was in and didn't want that again.
