Glove Box vs Heater Install Order?

Post by kevinshi »

What is the easiest order of installation for the heater box, heater cables, heater dash bezel and glove box?

I have my heater installed... and it will be a lot easier to connect the cables to the heater box while the glove box is still out... but I worry I won't be able to get the glove box into place (that there won't be enough room).

Is it possible to install the glove box last? (I think I am discovering why the glove box is made out of cardboard and not plastic...)

Or perhaps am I supposed to disconnect the cables from the bezel (and reconnect them as a final step)?
Thanks,
kevin

I have not done it, but I believe that the cardboard glove box is designed in such a way that it can be folded smaller, inserted from the front, and then expanded. Seems I saw that on here somewhere, but I don't remember where.

Ya, cardboard last in first out has been my procedure.
Fred
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Heater box, cables and control bezel, glove box liner.
There is more than enough room to install the liner. I replicated the cardboard liner in sheet metal because I wanted a stronger mounting for my fuse panel. It was installed after the heater box.

Thanks for the replies! OK I will stop worrying about this and assume glove box is last in (first out). LIFO for accountants out there! ;-)

Oh my goodness, I had not seen your fuse panel in glove box, that is such a great idea and super cool. Well done! Wish I had seen that a few years ago... I would have followed your lead on that... :-/. (I am tempted but am not going to backtrack there now...)

Yes, they are small LED lights, the switch is just visible in the lower left of the opening. The black box on the right side is the control module for the remote power door/trunk locks.
I also have a bank of relays under the glove box liner for the power windows, ignition, fuel pump, etc.
Gloves? I don't plan to drive the Comet in the winter so I do not need a place to keep gloves!!

Oh my goodness, you fashioned a glove box door switch for the lights?

Oh and by the way your second and fourth screws on the door hinge are missing lock washers and appear to be a different color (silver-ish rather than gold-ish)?

Your workmanship is rubbish! ;-)

Actually the hardware is all gold, (yellow zinc) the two screw hold the exterior trim to the door, the screws with serrated washers hold the door to the hinge.
Ya thought ya got me didn’t ya!!!
Keep trying........

VERY NICE! I was thinking of doing something similar but not sure I want to lose my glove box. But your setup is very clean and love the lights.
