Tire combos

Post by Comatt »

What is everyone running for tire combos on there cars? Size and brand? I’m looking at the Goodrich radial GT white letter tires at the moment but not sure how it would look on my car. Can Anyone post some pics of different cars and tires for me. Thanks!

I'm running Cooper Cobras all round. 215/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear with 15x7x3.75BS Torq Thrust IIs front and rear. If doing it over, I probably would have gone 205/65 or even 205/60 on the front. The 215's are a bit tight. Problem is Cobras don't come in either of those sizes. I mounted blackwalls out just because I prefer that look.

Those look good, how much lower is your car from stock? My wheels are 15s 3.5” bs. I think im good on the front cuz my tires are 205/60 15s but the back I’m running 215 70 15s and they are way to tall and rub on the front of the wheel well. Not sure why the rear ends in these cars seem so far forward like they aren’t centered in the wheel well.

I don't know how mine compares to stock, but it's sky high compared to Sassy. I'm at 11 1/2" at the front and 14" at the rear on the rockers. Part of that is replacement rear springs that have yet to settle down, but I expect it will settle in the 11 - 11 1/2" range.

Jim, my car was up even higher then that when I started this project! My dad had originally installed these leaf spring hangers cuz he wanted the rear end jacked up. I think when I initially measured it it was up almost 18”! Looked like a monster truck lol.

I'm running 225/60/15 on the front; 295/50/15 on the rear. Pretty sure these wouldn't fit on your car without some modifications. :)

205/60R-15 all the way around on 4.25" backspace 15"X7" Mag 500s. Diameter is same as stock 13 that came on the car. Tread width is maxed out.
Finding many manufacturers have dropped this size from their line. Still available in BFG Radial T/A.
A lowered front stance would help a bit on the 3>4 bang shift, keep the car from floating but that's part of the fun

Jim, I didn’t think 295s would fit on these cars, nice work! Did you go to a 4 link or something?

Joe, wish I could bang shift my car, it’s an auto 😢 Some day I’ll get someone to help me install a 427 and a top loader! In the meantime I got the Camaro to bang shift but somehow it’s just not as cool!

They won't...Mine was tubbed, leaf springs moved inward, with a Mustang gas tank installed sideways.

My car has been altered too much to be any reference to you in tire sizes. At the moment it is up on jack stands so cant even give you a rocker height.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Heck, install high-stall converter and slapstick shifter w/ reverse manual valve body :D
Was really into the 'big & skinny' look years ago. Thought about going back to it but the wide front meat, front crossmember, MII power R&P & some negative camber makes this a really fun car around the curves. Don't bang shift on enough straights to justify changing a thing, really. Maybe a Monte Carlo bar.
