Re: Drop template
It takes a 17/32” drill bit. Drill first hole with a smaller bit, 1/8”, then go from there, 1/4”, 3/8” then 17/32”. It’s critical to get the holes centered. I got the same template from John as well, purchased the bit with it.
If you want more info on this, maybe check out the Vintage Mustang Forum and do search on Shelby drop, or Arning drop, they have a lot of folks doing it.

Re: Drop template
This is interesting... Is there a way to tell if the Shelby drop has been done on a car? Does the control arm block the original holes? I just had my brakes upgraded (front disks, power booster, and dual reservoirs) by a Mustang guru. He mentioned I had Shelby coils in the front. I'll add that my car steers like it's on rails, really sensitive.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Drop template
If you’ve had the drop your original holes should be visible above the upper control arm bolts. You can look under the hood at them to.
Here’s a pic of the template, your original UCA bolts go through the big holes, and the small pilot holes face the rear.

Yep...mines been dropped. That explains the handling and stance. The more I learn about this car the more I love it! I got lucky.

Re: Drop template
I did the drop with the template then since I was cutting the shock towers and reinforcing the attachment points I welded the stock holes closed and dressed them. It is a good mod for our cars!
Re: Drop template
Yeah it looks dropped. The previous owner sure did some unforeseen work on your ride. A lot of folks do plug weld the holes and clean ‘‘em up, so it’s hard to tell if it’s been dropped.
Re: Drop template
No kidding...I looked under the car before I bought it but not on a lift. On the lift the Mustang guru pointed out some stuff, like how they moved the leaf springs to accommodate the big tires, the original, rust free floor pans, plastic coated steel fuel line...I was amazed how clean it is underneath. I'm afraid to drive it through puddles. Ironic since I've gone through all the trouble to get the wipers to work, which aren't, yet.
