'64 Cyclone Road Test article
Did a search and didn't find this posted, thought it was interesting.
Article on road testing the new 1964 Cyclone. Looks like Motor Trend, not sure.

Lost my Cyclone magazine collection during the last move. This was a treat.

Love those vintage articles. I have stacks of magazines from the 60's look at them every once in a while when I'm not busy.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

I remember that article, I probably have a copy of it somewhere. Seeing a Cyclone in factory stock form reminds me how much I prefer them modified. Mine was unmolested when I first bought it, that lasted for a very short time before I started to “improve” it. I was 18 at the time and money was tight so I cashed my check every week and bought Comet parts!

It's all sort of moot today but interesting in context with the times.A/FX wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 9:38 pmI remember that article, I probably have a copy of it somewhere. What was your first mod, Jim? Dual exhaust?

Re: '64 Cyclone Road Test article
If I remember correctly I bought a very used set of five spokes for it, not long after that I installed a non functional hood scoop from a ‘68 Cyclone and painted the raised panel on the hood satin black. (Just like the new Mach 1 Mustang!) The mechanical modifications came a little later. Here is what it looked like in 1970, the model is my then girlfriend now wife.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 9:54 pmIt's all sort of moot today but interesting in context with the times.A/FX wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 9:38 pmI remember that article, I probably have a copy of it somewhere. I love the late '60s-early '70s treatment of these cars, particularly this and Fred's army green car.
They look mean.

Re: '64 Cyclone Road Test article
I was just thinking about the car when the photo was taken, I almost forgot it was a column shift automatic car when I bought it. Not long after taking possession of it I found a wrecked Falcon that was a three speed, I bought everything from that car to convert mine to a stick shift. I do not remember what shifter I used but I did have the raised floor section from a four speed car, when I pulled the carpet back on my Comet I saw perforations in the factory sound deadener outlining where to cut the floor for the raised section to be installed. I ran a floor mounted three speed for a while, after I destroyed two of them I located a BW-T10 from a junked Comet and installed it along with a Hurst Competition plus shifter. That blew the budget for quite a while. I also changed the steering column to erase all signs of the column mounted automatic shifter, the only thing remaining was the wiring for the back up lights, I wired them into a under dash toggle switch. After that anytime someone tailgated me I just flipped the switch! One time I guy was on my ass, I flipped the switch, the back up lights came on and freaked him out. He went into the ditch!Joe Travers wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 12:13 amI love the late '60s-early '70s treatment of these cars, particularly this and Fred's army green car.

Thanks for the positive comment about the picture but you now have made me feel like a senior!! Funny thing about that photo... a number of years after it was taken we purchased the house and property in the background. I still live just down the road from that place!

That wasn’t the intention Jim! If it’s any consolation my kids make me feel like a senior on a regular basis. My 52 year old shoulders can’t throw pitches anymore and my lower back doesn’t play nice either!!A/FX wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 7:51 amThanks for the positive comment about the picture but you now have made me feel like a senior!! Agree!
When I take my Falcon to the track I see all the old boys still enjoying and driving the heck out of their cars. Talking to them is priceless and I hope that’ll be me someday.
Last track day I met a 78 year old Aussie driving a Fox bodied Mustang. He was super cool and asked me to run with his group. I did and once he was done toying around with me he took off chasing faster cars! Man that dude was fast!
