Re: Motivation
I know you guys are happy to crank 'em up after the snow melts.
Had a blast this morning driving out to my old Unc's place for a visit.

Re: Motivation
I’m ready, the Comet is ready, but the weather refuses to cooperate. I am trying to be patient and wait until the weather conditions are right but by that time the local farmers will be out in the fields dragging dirt onto the roads.
Hopefully I will be able to bring out the summer toys real soon.....

Same problem here on my favorite stretch of road after a rain. That and dodging roadkill.

Re: Motivation
Thanks Pop & Lou - missed you guys too! Kid was definitely more excited.
I wasn't unhappy. but on first go became apparent the module in the distributor had taken a dump. So that makes one ignition module & one coil in less than 1000 miles. I figure Accel/Holley are going to mail me a check for $174 bucks any day now. Maybe I should wait by the mailbox...not...

I think I’ll stick with the stock points distributer in the Comet and the Accel dual point in the Falcon. Not cutting edge but they always work.Rocket989 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 9:12 amThanks Pop & Lou - missed you guys too! Kid was definitely more excited.

Re: Motivation
I like the MSD set-up but if it fails may go to Pertronix. Not really sold on multi-spark for the additional money.
You can tune the distributors very easily and they throw more voltage to the plugs over 5K rpm.
Swapped points for Duraspark II EI when it first came out but it isn't a CD system. Not as hot on the top end.

Re: Motivation
I have a soft-spot for the Accel stuff and back when, had gotten a great deal on the distributor. It's easy to tune the advance curve, etc. Well, except they no longer make the bushings and while other brands bushings ID's are same, the OD's are not. I got lucky and found one that gives ~14-degrees of advance. I think heat could be a limiting factor on service life for the ignition module, but still <1000-miles is lame. And I'd spent the extra bucks on the Accel epoxy filled coil - it just crapped-out one day last year (thankfully at the brothers place).
Ah well. If I keep having issues, I'll do the Duraspark thing & call it good.
Joe - Ha, I did keep the stock points dist. I redid; stuffed in a bag & ready to roll!

Re: Motivation
I used to pull the complete Duraspark II system off junkyard cars back when they were plentiful. Cut the ignition leads to the module w/ a pocketknife, unbolt the module, coil & distributor and pull it all at once. 302 units for the 289s and 360 units for the 390s. Always used the one w/ blue module insulator. They were pretty bulletproof. IIRC, only had one module failure and they used to be a dime a dozen but that was a long time ago.

Re: Motivation
I did the same thing, to this day running duraspark in my 67 GT500 that I installed in the late 80's. Ford put duraspark distributors in FE's for a couple years in mid 70's F series trucks with 360's. Still using the same junkyard module.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 1:54 pmI used to pull the complete Duraspark II system off junkyard cars back when they were plentiful.
