1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
Pulled the old Family Comet out of the barn after 40 years. Last time it ran the water pump had failed and the car was towed home and put in the barn. When they towed it they removed the driveshaft and over the course of 40 years it's been lost. Can anyone tell me the specs on this driveshaft and what other cars of that era might have had the same shaft. It's a V8 car with an automatic transmission. Any info would be much appreciated.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
Where are you located? I have one from my 65 2 dr hardtop caliente . came with a 3 on the tree but I think they may be the same as auto trans. someone on here probably knows.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
Yeah, location would help. I may have one from a 65 Caliente that had a C4 trans.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
How long is it?
I just measured this one from 65 cali with 3 on tree(again ) & it's 57'' center of eye to center of eye . or total length is 58 & 1/4''.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
I need to get out to my storage building and measure them, I had like 4 of them, a couple were from 66 Mustangs.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
I'm located in West Texas. I forgot to mention the car is a 4 door sedan. Don't know if a 4 door and 2 door were the same length.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
Well you’re a good distance from me. You may try and get a measurement and go from there. Maybe this will help some,

Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
Pretty sure all models 2dr & 4dr except wagon had same wheel base > 114'' ,which should make shaft & all the drivetrain the same.
Re: 1964 Comet Caliente Driveshaft
The one I have left is 56 3/4” total length, 50 3/8” center eye front n back, 26 spline yoke. I’m not sure if it’s from one of the 66 Mustangs I had, or one of the 65 Comets I parted out.
