Joe maybe for another ford but 64 comets were like a orangish red . look in groovers thread, he goes by the book on everything. comets didn't have a blue motor until 66 when all ford motors in anything fomoco were blue.

Lou I suppose that 289 4v would be the famous impersonator the 64 comet ''K'' code. some savvy pencil pusher's idea to help sell it! [JMO ! ! !] JOHN !
I did a lot of research at the time, but nothing led me to a conclusive conclusion. Our block was stamped 63 (I don't recall the code but it's in our thread somewhere). We found more 63 (C3) parts in the engine bay than 64, and at least one 62 stamping. Our intake had the PCV valve which as I recall was new in early 64 and later in the year they went back to the road draft tube... except in California where I think the road draft was designed for. I do recall seeing about differences in early 64 and late 64's. As I recall, our car was built in Loraine, but DSO'd out of LA (which was unusual, because I think there were Comets built in LA). At any rate, there is enough confusion there that it's possible it is a 63 block installed new in a 64 Caliente. Regardless we painted her like a 63, and this is the first time it's come up.

This is the first time I've seen such a low mileage survivor in this great shape!
I corresponded w/ Bob Mannel on this and he was gracious enough to answer my inquiry. He owned a '64 Comet Caliente 260 car and I have to get his book! Here's the rundown on 260 engine color by year, pg. A-10- http://fordsmallblock.com/
'62 Mercury, red- Ford, argent
'63 Ford/Mercury, red - Falcon Sprint, chrome
'64 Ford/Mercury, medium blue - Falcon Sprint, chrome
