Sold 12/2/22 in Kansas City

Post by A/FX »

Mecum auction, sold for 39k
https://www.mecum.com/lots/KD1222-52488 ... ury-comet/
Someone got a deal, 39k does not go far when doing a build like this.

That was a steal! That's exactly the way I treated the grill on my first Cyclone back in '70, except I blacked out the headlight bezels, too. Looking back at old pics of mine, I think I like it better with the bezels left factory.

This car was running 8 sec. quarters just a few years ago. Granted, don't know history over last few years. Looks like it's been lowered since then.
Then again, it may be a clone of the 427 FE car??? :?
May be, check @ 3:22- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU7Rmu- ... l=bensunkl

The engine choice killed the price in my opinion. Any FE engine would make more sense in an A/FX clone. In todays maket that is a good deal though.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

About three years ago I found a completely stock restored '65 in W. Texas for $20K. Kept trying to contact seller but no answers.
Found out a dealer picked it up and flipped it for $40K, using the same photos from the sellers private ad! :(

The 427 car ran this Fall @ Beaver Springs- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWREk2E ... harlesDale
There's a '64 in the video similar to Fred's car in the looks department.
I plan on trying to get to the '23 race w/ my son, if we have a chance to make it.

Thanks for the link, John! That’s one bada$$ Cyclone.
Used to dream about building my rust bucket like this years ago when I was poor as a snake.

From all the video I’ve seen, it’s the fastest car at that meet.

Didn't realize there was more than one tribute car out there.
Don's Stroppe Cammer was sold @ auction about 10 years ago, according to Hemmings Motor News.
