Top radiator hose for '64...289

Post by postie »

My son just rebuilt my engine [289] for my 1964 Comet. Numbers seem to indicate it was from a 1966 Fairlane originally. Can anyone tell me a part number for a top radiator hose? Got one from Lordco today [ACDelco 24019L] and it is not right.

All depends on where your top radiator hose is located. Don’t assume anything is correct for a ‘64. Do some measuring and even make a template from a piece of wire and go to you local parts store and go through their inventory. (NAPA OR better, the ‘ZONE and like are basically useless in my opinion)
I have already found a hose with the correct bends and size but too long, I cut what I need from a longer hose and fit it correctly. I do not recommend corrugated type hose, I use formed hoses exclusively.
This is just my opinion……

On the Summit site it says the ACDelco 24019L will work, but it is trim to fit. The correct one connects to the thermostat housing, rolls slightly up then makes a "s" curve toward the passenger side to the upper radiator. Hopefully you can lay the one you have on the car and figure out where to cut out the part that works. Or get the correct one. Dayco 70443 is correct if you are using the original radiator.

I recently replaced the upper hose on mine, and got it at Advance Auto Parts. It was a Dayco and fit just fine after I trimmed about 1" off the rad end.

Thanks for all the replies. I went back to Lordco today with my old hose, the aluminum one, which really didn't fit right in the first place. They took me into the back where I was able to go through all the hoses they had. Picked out 3 I thought might work. Unfortunately no time until next week to work on it. I will let you all know which one is workable.

I found that the ACDelco #20330S...GM #88919887 worked pretty good. No cutting necessary.
