An alternative to the stock starter?

Post by Racersonly »

My car has stock exhaust manifolds and the exhaust pipes both pass under the stock starter. It’s a beeatch to change the starter as there’s very little room to work the thing in and out. I have to loosen the left exhaust pipe to manifold joint to get some pipe movement, and partially dismantle the starter. (Remove the forward end ring.) I have had trouble with two starters now and I’m tired of fighting the change out. Anyone know of an alternative starter that will fit in my limited space?

Do you have an early 3 bolt starter or a late 2 bolt style?
I recommend a Powermaster gear type, it is smaller, stronger, and will turn an engine faster than an OEM style.

I have one on my Boss engine, works perfectly and is small enough to have plenty of clearance around it from the headers.
