Aftermarket A/C install

Post by Comatt »

Does anyone know of a good aftermarket a/c kit for these cars? Something that has most of the bracketry hopefully. Anyone who’s done this and wants to add some tips that would be great! Thanks

What kind do you want?

there is the underdash (knee knocker) unit ,,,

or the kind that goes in place of the stock heater box (it has its own heater) & place vents & ductwork where ever you choose, which on a 65 comet not much real estate to put them other than make a new lower section of the dash under the bezel/trim, there are several companies that make them.

Look beyond what may or may not be available for a Comet. Falcons are basically the same vehicle, there are a few aftermarket manufacturers who offer retro fit air conditioning systems in ‘60’s Ford Products.
Example:

‘64 Cyclone/ Boss 302,quads,4spd, Winters 9”

I'm seriously thinking about selling my Classic Auto under-dash system.
Don't need a condenser in front of my radiator.

You have a drop top in the North. Do you really need one?
Let the wind blow....... :D

Joe, people think it’s nuts to have a/c in a convertible but I was out last weekend in 95 degree heat in my car with a black interior and just about baked Alive. Michigan is super hot and sweaty, I have another convertible too and probably wouldn’t drive it as much as I do without the A/C! Also the wife likes to come along and gave me permission so there’s that 😂 Are you wanting to sell yours? Lmk

I saw you guys were getting a freaky heat wave :(
Why I will never repaint my car original Presidential Black. Would look slick but man it would get hot. If Momma says A/C, yeah A/C

I would probably sell my system locally or pickup for around $400. Shipping all of it would break the bank.
You can pick up a new system from them for around $1200+ a little extra if you have to customize the setup to fit.

I installed a classic air unit that replaces the existing heating core. The whole thing fit like a glove and the people where excellent to work with. The new controls match the looks of the existing. I mounted the compressor on the passenger side so the hoses are shorter and not crossing over the front of the motor.

Here is a thread I started about doing mine frankenstien style with a factory underdash type , but quite a bit of other info on it from others & what they did with other kinds. also lists of places where I ordered my parts.

https://www.cometcentral.com/forum/view ... =1&t=14579

there are what they call ''underhood'' kits if you want to redo a factory kneeknocker like I did & they supply everything else that goes underhood- comp,hoses,condenser,dryer..., & some kits you have to cut to fit & have the hoses crimped at a shop. which I wanted to cut & crimp my own hoses for a neater look

so you need to decide which is best for you & if you DIY it or have it done by someone else

I may be a little late posting here but I liked the look of the classic auto air kit because their control replaced the current one.
