Post by 22charlieg »

Hey all I'm new to this site I have been searching for months to find the correct inner and outer tie rods for my 64 comet cyclone it has a 298 with power steering the inner and outer I pulled out of the car appears to be the same part when I search all the parts stores they come back with a tie rod that is to small I've also tried rock auto jegs and parts geek and they all show the same part the only thing I have to go on is the thread pitch of the old tie rod which are 1/2 x 20 on the ball stud and 11/16 x 18 on the adjusting sleeve side I will try to upload pictures once I figure out how I am also looking for the correct idler arm and I will post pictures of that as well

Just wondering. Were there differences from the Cyclone compared any other V8 comet?

Cheers

I'm not aware of any difference in the front end parts with the v8 to the 6 cyl it was my dad's first car and he held onto it for 50 years he bought it with a 289 4 speed manual and my grandpa swapped the engine and Trans to a 302 automatic while my dad was in the army that's all the information I have

Yes Sir, very good inventory 👍
C&G in California very knowledgeable as well but inventory seems to have dried up a bit since Covid lockdown.
Same for Falcon Parts but not as bad.

2 other places to try would be open tracker racing,( the owner is in to falcons big time) and the other place would be falcon parts in California

This ever increasing problem of finding earlier frontend parts is one of the main reasons the 65 v8 steering upgrade is so popular, the outcome is a better driving car with parts that will always be easier to find thanks to the millions of mustangs still on the road today. with only the center link as comet/falcon specific .

but you need use all 65 parts ,even the spindles. all of the info needed is answered in this article by Dick Harrington that we know of.
