Leaf springs! To dampen or not to dampen that is the question?

Post by IrishTap »

Hey guys i pulled off the leaf springs and the new ones have arrived my hardbody have 5 springs and a dampener with rubber around the springs, its my understanding the convertibles needed the extra spring to hold the top when down, so i got 4 spring leafs.

Should i bolt them up as it?

or

Should i get new dampeners and rubber and then bolt on?

Thanks

Did you ever find out more info about the rubber isolator? I have not ordered springs yet but I am thinking you would want to leave the rubber block out as it will be a point of flex.

What springs did you end up buying?

Hi,

I did replace my old 4 leafs springs to 5 leafs springs with rubber around it. It is better to drive if there is one or two person sitting in rear seats but very hard if drive alone.

The extra leaf was stock for the wagons and was an option for the Cyclone for better handling. Deleting the insulator would provide stiffer suspension. Leaving it is a bit awkward, as it negates the reasons for installing extra leaf. Have to choose your goals; performance or ride quality. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.
