Just a couple more things...

After you remove the crossmember be aware that when you lower the trans to remove,,, That the engine is also going to tilt back. If you cooling fan is close to rad it may hit the rad and damage it when you lower the trans.

If fan is close to a fan shroud, same thing when engine moves fan may take out shroud.

Also anything that is close to rear of engine or valve covers on the firewall may get damaged if engine tilts back and hits, like heater hoses, throttle linkage, etc.

After I remove the transmission crossmember I only lower trans enough to remove. Before removing all bellhousing bolts I put a scissor jack with a piece of wood under the oil pan to keep the engine from moving too far.. then remove trans.. this also stabilizes the engine for when you reinstall the trans.

Things can get interesting if you remove trans and just let engine hang, real interesting if you do it with a bad engine mount!!

Just some things to think about.

Lou

I got the car up in the air to take a look at what I am dealing with and I already have a question. Does this crossmember appear to be correct?

Just about anywhere. Google C4 rebuild kit and read until your eyeballs fall out. If you do this don’t skimp - do all of the bearings too. Generally there are two or 3 kit levels.

Managed to get it all back together. Wife and I got it back in the car today. Just need to fill with oil and try it. Just hope it works.

I trust it will be okay, Luke 👍 Post your results.

Did you do any valve body modifications while you were in there? I installed a Stage One towing kit in my last C-4. It was in a rickety '68 Mustang. Windows, doors, etc. sounded like a rattle can every time it shifted. Tranny was a killer unit, never failed or let me down

I did do the valve body I put a shift kit in it. SO had it all appart and drilled a hole. We got fluid in it and it did go forward 4 feet and backward 4 feet. Now gotta get it out of the shed so we can see if it shifts and really works.
