Dan's 65 Cyclone project !
Re: Dan's 65 Cyclone project !
I heard using Dry Ice on the inside freezes the under coating. it gets brittle and can be scraped off very easy
Only use the brakes to stop and get gas.

I'm pretty sure one TKX shifter location should be same as T-5. There are plenty of those conversions floating around.bigdan wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 5:19 pmNo, my car was an automatic. I've used a TKX previously; I'm hoping the forward shifter location will clear the tunnel support. Floor first, of course. Here's the last I installed; the square plate with the sticker is for the forward shifter location. Thanks for looking-

Was revisiting this in my head, looking for stout overdrive that fits factory location and remembered that's a bust.

Thanks

Re: Dan's 65 Cyclone project !
Would have to be a toploader for the stock location. The TKX is rated to 600 ft/lbs and I'm thinking the forward shifter location would clear the crossmember. They're super smooth - I love the unit in my 53 pickup - shifts at 6500 every now and then 🫣Joe Travers wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 10:31 amI'm pretty sure one TKX shifter location should be same as T-5. Still making progress. Body is stripped for now and braced off. It's amazing how light these cars are once stripped down; heck i can pick up either end off the sawhorses myself! Pulled dimensions and then got distracted stripping a little paint from the drivers trunk drop; not too bad, just a little rust and mud to remove. Whittling away at floor removal now; more later!

Well, still pushing. Just taking an afternoon here and there till this floor is done! Was supposed to take a ride to Michigan this weekend to grab a rotisserie from a fellow CC member, but being on call for work stopped that. So, after getting called in this morning decided to get to the point of test-fitting the floor once I got home. Still a long way to go, but now I can Cleco it in, get it fitted and keep moving forward. Still have to fab toe boards, some patches to the wheel wells, etc but I'm closer than I was.

Re: Dan's 65 Cyclone project !
Spent my father's day morning tinkering on the 65. Was able to get the toeboards fitted and a little more prep for the one-piece floor install. Ordered a set of the Tin Man SFC's to install while the floor is out (thanks for the tip, Rootsy) to save a little aggravation later on. I'll pick up some weld-thru primer this week and should be able to start welding then in soon.

A little further. Focusing on getting everything fitted and exactly where I want it, so in-out-repeat multiple times to check and adjust. Fitted the Tinman SFC's also; was extremely happy with the accuracy of the bends.
Also located a good 351W block local, so I'll get that home next weekend. All in all just plowing forward.

Re: Dan's 65 Cyclone project !
More progress and a little good luck. A friend of a friend had a 351W block, so I took a chance and checked it out. Ended up meeting a cool fella just a few miles away and picked up a short block to get started with. D9 block - minimal wear - heck, I couldn't tell if it had ever even been apart. Bores all miked out at 4.002-4.003, crank and rods looked great. A little clean up here and it'll get hot tanked / magnafluxed then I'll use it for mockup / header fab before building - 408 I'm thinking . . . . .?
Cleaned up the toeboard area to start getting the floor installed as well, so moving along there as well.

Don't know deck clearance for that block but I'd zero it out if it's going to a machinist.
I've had a couple dawg 351Ws from that era. Strong bottom end but need good set of heads like any SBF.

I always figure out what kind of compression ratio I am looking for and then pick heads, pistons (compression height) for the combo and head gasket thickness and set deck height to get appropriate quench in conjunction with CR.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 8:38 pmDon't know deck clearance for that block but I'd zero it out if it's going to a machinist.

Sucks trying to shop for head gaskets to set distance after the fact.
