‘64 Cyclone at Kissimmee

Post by A/FX »

This looks like a decent restoration. Sits about 4” too high in the rear and the door panels are not ‘64 Cyclone. (No chrome trim on the originals and the pleats ran the height of the panel)

What a pretty car!
I'd change the wheels and ride height before I took it out of the garage though.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Everything shown is almost immaculate.

Just saw a '66 Mustang hardtop cross the block @ Kissimmee for $34K. Nothing special.

Apart from maybe the stance, this car is about exactly how I want mine to turn out complete.
Will be fascinated to see what it goes for. Even moreso if someone on here buys it or has seen it??
I see the 65 Cyclone on auction went for high 50's......

Wow 100K...

First year I missed Kissimmee since Covid and a Comet brings 100 grand :(

Would have liked to seen the quality of that one in person .

I agree with ya Joe,,,, Very Cool to see Comets bring this kind of money.

As the owner of a ‘64 Cyclone for almost 57 years and as much as I would want the value of ‘64 Cyclones to be in this neighborhood, in reality I can’t agree that they are worth that kind of money. This looked like a very well done example, the trim looked almost perfect, the paint and details were well done, as previously mentioned the only downsides were the door panels and ride height.
Of course this is just my opinion, you may not agree.

Yes but Jim, you built yours. How much would it cost to have that one built?
Even a 66-7 Mustang where everything is available and doesn't need to be 1)found, and 2) restored is way more.

This car was also sold at Mecum in 2015 for like 65K thinking it is a pretty nice car to bring that kind of money 10 years ago, and 100K now.

Looks like they only put twelve miles on it in those 10 years.

I was referring to what I believe these cars are worth which not necessarily what the owner has invested. The auction Comet is well done and I am sure someone spent a load of money on it, they should feel fortunate that they were able to recover the restoration cost.
I know I have way more money in my Comet than it’s value if it were to be sold. I knew that when I started the build. ( I did not keep track of the cost or how many hours I had in it, I sold some cars to fund the build) I did not do the car for an investment, it was a bucket list thing for me, after sitting idle for 40years I made a promise to myself that I would finish the car and enjoy it before I cashed in. Promise fulfilled.

Yes Jim that's my point. If having your car done the way you wanted but had to pay someone to do it I'm sure it would be well more than the auction car sold for.
Why do we undervalue these rare cars?
I just read somewhere a Chevette went for $33,000!

Well said. Very fortunate to find someone looking for a bone stock example in excellent condition.

Brought more than twice the bids for the two '64 Cyclones listed on BAT last year. I consider those very mildly modified cars not too far off the mark as far as what was shown? Hard to say but all very nice cars. 8)
