The firewall seems to fit pretty well...I wanted to do some bead roll design on the firewall and in my rookie haste I forgot to do the bead rolling first :x
I lowered the engine 3/4 of an inch and I have a 6 1/2" drop from the trans tail shaft to the center of the differential...I'm not sure how to deal with that problem yet.. Any suggestions ???

Howdy everyone been a while since I've posted and like everyone it's been very busy at work and not much time for fun car stuff LOL I've recently got both quarter panels that I fabricated all welded in and metal finished and now I'm working on the custom fabricated tubs.
I've never installed tubs before and I was curious if anyone had any advice on how to attach the tubs to the outer quarter panel wall? In one of the pictures I fabricated a flange that I was going to weld to the edge of the tub where the tub meets the outer quarter panel. I was going to either plug weld the flange to the outer quarter panel or I could use one of the strong adhesives that they use these days to glue panels together. I don't think this car is going to see a whole lot of flexing so I'm leaning towards welding the tubs to the quarter panel. Any advice anyone has on adhering and sealing up the tubs on the outer quarter panel would be very welcomed. Have a great day everyone thanks for looking!

Looking great!
Thinking about attaching the tub to the 1/4, Im thinking the adhesive.
The chassis may not flex but the body might some, if it does it will stress the tacks which may show through on the body finish and or crack near the welds. I would think a bead of adhesive under and over tubs would have clean look and spread out any load caused by flex.
Wish I'd a had the talent you have and back halfed my car similar to yours,,,

I'm with Fred, I love the 08115 3M body adhesive. Saves a lot of work. no worry about welds rusting in places you cant get to to sand/grind & seal. you are gluing & sealing all at once, eliminating some steps needed when welding. & can be sanded & painted.

Quarters look great! progress is all looking good!!! :D

Thanks for the kind words and help fellas !
I never fabbed sheet metal until I started this project and it just takes practice and time and a few good tools.

well you cant tell it by looking, it looks great! Hard to see where you did anything ! :D Look like an old pro did it!!!

Louscomet gave me some tips on gluing my cowl cover on with the adhesive in case you decide to use the adhesive . I think you'll like it & use it on other parts of your build. I used it on parts of my minitubs, trunk gutters, parts of the floors,& soon the top of the cowl .

Here are the tips Lou gave me;
Just a thought but if it was me I would get a second tube of 8115 just in case, ya know.

If you don't open it you can always send it back.

You need to put a coating on the bonding area, (perimeter) of both surfaces, then run a bead on one of them (I would do this to the surface on car.) one tube might do it, might not. Plus the adhesive you will need to replace or cover the hats. But you don't want to run out in the middle of the job.

I use tin brushes to spread the initial coating on the two bonding surfaces. They are cheap, work great and ya toss them when done. Then run like a 3/16 bead in the middle of the bonding strip so it squeezes out both sides. If you want to be sure run a little bigger bead, but you want it to squeeze out both sides. You can do a test when you first open the tube. Ya need to run a inch or two out first to make sure it is mixed. You can use that inch or two to test with some scrap to see if it is squeezing out both sides.

But you do not want to run out of glue !

Also after prepping the car, and inside of panel, I grind the bonding edge with 24-36 grit on a angle grinder (rough it up good) Then cover that edge with 3/4" masking tape. Then you can coat the car side with POR or whatever you decide to use. And I would also do the inside of the new panel. Prep the edge, tape it and paint the inside of the panel. The paint that comes on panels in my experience doesn't hold up well. I use a spay can of VHT epoxy to do the inside of panels.
