Headliners - differences?

Post by fairlaniac »

The other day I removed the headliner from my '64 Comet. It has the 4 cardboard panels, 3 opaque poly type strips that snap in some "T" shaped bows attached by screws to the roof interior. Online in Autokrafters I see a one pieces material headliner with a warning "no instructions". Did both types of material come in Comets or is the one piece material a replacement for the 4 panels?

Thanks,
Doug Bender

Doug;yes, both designs were used, they are two seperate designs! In order to use the fabric, one piece design, you need the roof bows for one,I believe only the hardtop bows fit and also you need to use a hardtop headliner, not a sedan!A friend just went through this on a Cyclone he and his Father are rebuilding! Doug, I haven't pulled out my head liner yet, but I have dents to take out of the roof. Is there an inner skin under the roof or can you take the dents out of the roof easily ?

Doug the headliner bows from the 64 or 65 Falcon at the junkyard will work for you, make sure not to loose any of the small clips when removing. The card board style is not available yet, don't throw the parts away just in case someone may need.......Al

As Roy said they came both ways. I had the cardboard type too. I got a set of bows off of EBay. They seem to bring $80-$100 for the bows when they do show up on Ebay.
I did see this tho, don't know anyone that has used the kit but may be something to look at.

read the post careful before you spend the 200 dollars. You need all original hardware and chrome parts then glue material to the boards after fitment. I have the chrome parts and attempted to have the plastic re-chromed but that type plastic material they said, "cannot be re-done"........Al
