Post by dude95307 »

I got my 65 cyclone started Sunday, nice to have on the road soon,
But I get a backfire from the carburetor, a flame shoots up in the air, and there is no connection from the dist to the carb, plus the timeing is kinda fast too, any help please

dude,

Have you checked the obvious? Firing order, Is the distributor in correctly? Thats where I would start.

it runs, but give some gas then a flame comes out of the carb, but not all the time, seems to run fast and to much gas, I can smell it from the pipes. I guess I well get a timing light.

thanks for youe help

has it been sitting a long time?/ do you live in a high humidity area? sounds like a bad intake valve is possible . check firing order ,advance then look for a pair of bad plug wires or moisture in the dist cap . if that fails run a compression test .also check the float setting on your carb as well as jetting and idle mixture setting and accelerator pump seting. hope this helps

I'd get a timing light and check the timing, if it is too advanced it will fire the plug before the intake valve fully closes and poof, backfire. Checking the firing order is a good idea too.
Also remember you can't always depend fully on the timing marks on the balancer as the ring could of slipped, additionally the timing chain could be off a tooth.

See Ya,
