I got my 65 cyclone started Sunday, nice to have on the road soon,
But I get a backfire from the carburetor, a flame shoots up in the air, and there is no connection from the dist to the carb, plus the timeing is kinda fast too, any help please

yes I did
it runs, but give some gas then a flame comes out of the carb, but not all the time, seems to run fast and to much gas, I can smell it from the pipes. I guess I well get a timing light.

has it been sitting a long time?/ do you live in a high humidity area? sounds like a bad intake valve is possible . check firing order ,advance then look for a pair of bad plug wires or moisture in the dist cap . if that fails run a compression test .also check the float setting on your carb as well as jetting and idle mixture setting and accelerator pump seting. hope this helps

no, I drive it down the street every saturday, it starts ok, but sometime it put out a flame from the carb, I check it out

I'd get a timing light and check the timing, if it is too advanced it will fire the plug before the intake valve fully closes and poof, backfire. Checking the firing order is a good idea too.
Also remember you can't always depend fully on the timing marks on the balancer as the ring could of slipped, additionally the timing chain could be off a tooth.
