I had a 1965 Calientie that was registered as a 1966 in Alabama (but it was the 65 body). That was my second 65 Comet.

I'll have to dig around & see if I still have any of the old tag receipts with the VIN number on it.

I get the most questions and criticism from people familiar with falcons and comets. Only becuase they know more about our cars. Most Chevy guys and others don't know much about our cars so have no idea what is normal and not added on.Tims1965MercuryComet wrote:This morning I was watching The PowerNation shows on Spike tv. The featured car was a 1964 Plymouth Valient. During the Truck Tech episode they also showed a 1965 Comet hardtop that the same customizer had built up. It had 65 front clip, and I could see from the side shot it has 65 tail lights. But the lettering under the shot of the car said it was a 1964 Mercury Comet. Since I dvr this stuff, I backed it up, paused it, and can see that the rear is a 65. I know some here have put a 65 front clip on a 64. And Ron has a very nice 65 front on a Ranchero. Is just another example of car guys who don't know very much about our Comets?

In my case most everything was a direct bolt on except the the wagon taillight assemblies which did take some sheetmetal alteration to fit and look like they belonged. Just takes some familiarity and planning to make it all fit and work.
