New Comet owner here - 64 Wagon
Hi all!
I'm a new Comet owner, a 1964 Model 404 wagon. I've been reading the forums and decided to join. I'm a Mopar guy, but have owned 4 fox bodies, and a 73 Mustang convertible in the past. My wagon is a 289 4bbl, C4, Wilwood disc brakes. It came with most of the parts to convert it to a 4 speed, including a toploader trans that the previous owner had in his old 64 Comet wagon that he bought brand new. Lots of useful info here, looking forward to participating.

Cool wagon, Brian!
PO had a factory 4 speed wagon or converted?
I imagine a factory car was a very rare option.

at one time,,you could order a car like you really wanted,,,just check the right box,and that's what you would get!!!but now you get thier packge ....back in 1991 when I ordered my ranger pu,,I wanted full rubber mats instead of carpet,,had to take carpet because factory didn't offer rubber mats in XLT,I even tried to get the dealership to change out the carpet,,,they refused,,,,,so it is what it is,,,,popJoe Travers wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:45 pmCool wagon, Brian!

Hi Joe, yes the PO had bought a 64 wagon new with a 4 speed and a 289 4bbl. Not sure if this toploader was in it or not, rumor is that it originally was in his 64 wagon. I'm not sure if they came with toploaders or T-10's. Anyway the PO wanted to convert it to a 4 speed so it was like his original wagon, but unfortunately he passed away recently.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:45 pmCool wagon, Brian!

Yep, Pop. It is what it is....bloody rare!
Sounds like PO was a family guy and a Don Nicholson fanbs71challenger wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 5:59 amHi Joe, yes the PO had bought a 64 wagon new with a 4 speed and a 289 4bbl.
Production number for the 404 wagon was 6,918. The number equipped with the A code with 4 speed may be 5%? IDK without a Marti report. I would have to believe vast majority were not equipped with the Cyclone powertrain. Exceptionally cool car!

Yeah, I'm old '65 Cyclone guy. Speaking of options, my Cyclone had bench seats, 3 on the tree and a trailer hitch.bs71challenger wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 4:54 pmMy wagon is a K-code, too bad it's not the same as the Mustang lol
The guy that bought it and restored it put buckets, console and 4 speed in it. He messed up an odd car.

Re: New Comet owner here - 64 Wagon
I was thinking about this, Pop. At the time, I would have restored the car the same as the buyer. Thinking back on it, I wouldn't. A 3 speed, bench seat, A code Cyclone is very rare. It should have stayed that way to remain rare. I loved that car and couldn't restore it, with sick wife and kids in college. Wouldn't have the money now to do it justice. I saved it from a weed patch and found it a good home.
Rock on with the 4 speed, Brian! That would be a very cool conversion for a wagon
