I’m back with another ‘64
I’m back with another ‘64
I sold my ‘64 a few years back as my wife and I were expecting our first kid and I wanted to downsize. It was a pretty nice original paint car. I bought a top loader for it and redid the entire interior. I regretted selling it ever since. I recently sold a ‘72 Blazer I frame off restored and was keeping an eye out for something that would heal that pain a bit. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular when I ran across the nicest original ‘64 Caliente I’ve ever seen. It’s an original paint and interior car with 29k miles. Anyway, looking forward to hanging out here again. I think my plan is to keep it stock but, maybe add some steel wheels as I love that look.

Both very nice cars from Super Stock look to showroom look
Don't know which I prefer. Really like the old one but I'm a sucker for turquoise interior.

That is a beautiful car! I don't think I could bring myself to do anything but detail the engine bay and leave it that.

I agree with this but add that I would paint the breather and v cover back to stock factory colorsJims65cyclone wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:23 pmThat is a beautiful car! I don't think I could bring myself to do anything but detail the engine bay and leave it that.

They are stock for 260, which I'm assuming this is. Air breather decal looks original.

Joe maybe for another ford but 64 comets were like a orangish red . look in groovers thread, he goes by the book on everything. comets didn't have a blue motor until 66 when all ford motors in anything fomoco were blue.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 2:36 pmThey are stock for 260, which I'm assuming this is. When I bought my Cyclone in 1968 the 289 block and heads were black, chrome valve covers, dip stick and air cleaner top. The air cleaner body was argent.poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 7:39 pmJoe maybe for another ford but 64 comets were like a orangish red . look in groovers thread, he goes by the book on everything. comets didn't have a blue motor until 66 when all ford motors in anything fomoco were blue.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 2:36 pmThey are stock for 260, which I'm assuming this is. Well... umm... actually John, I'm leaning toward the 64 being black with blue valve covers, breather, etc. When we dug into our block and casting numbers, it was stamped as a 63 which meant it had been swapped at some point. I asked a lot of questions about it in the thread. At any rate, we liked the orange color better and since the 63 - 260 did have orange valve covers, breather, etc. we went with that. If you check out Kevin/Mopar's 63 which is an all-original 260, his is orange. I'm not sure we've ever had somebody show at the gathering with an original 64 with a 260 (I feel like we were one of the only 260's around except for Kevin). At any rate. It's quite probable that the 64 260 was black block with blue covers. the 289 was black with Gold covers. But I reserve the right to be wrong on just about anything I say these days.poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 7:39 pmJoe maybe for another ford but 64 comets were like a orangish red . look in groovers thread, he goes by the book on everything. comets didn't have a blue motor until 66 when all ford motors in anything fomoco were blue.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 2:36 pmThey are stock for 260, which I'm assuming this is. Re: I’m back with another ‘64
Groover, is your car early production '64?
Reason I ask, I've seen a few nutty things during transition years. After my '68 Ranchero caught fire, I pulled the engine and tore it down. It was a C code truck w/ 302 block and 289 rotating assembly as per casting numbers. Wondering if the '63 engine may have late build date, body early & they were mated @ the factory?
