Re: Finally decided to cut my shock towers.
Decided to test fit an old 390 I had lying around. (Check out my home made motor puller plate.) Forgot to clean the garbage the mice left on the intake, oh well. Used some 68 Cougar FE frame and motor mounts. They of course bolted right up. The only problem was the rubber part of the motor mount (Cougars FE's had a 3 part motor mount.) hit the shock tower area above the frame mount so I cut it out. Once I get everything fitting the way I want I will start welding in the new metal. I now can actually see my 427 finally getting in here someday.
Yesterday.
Today!
Cougar FE motor mounts in my 65 Cyclone, here you can see the section above the frame mount with the hand pointing at it, that I cut out today.

That's pretty much what I had planned on doing, and I know I was gonna buy a plastic mockup engine but FE ones are over $400.00 so this old boat anchor will do.CALIFORNIA CALIENTE wrote:Larry;that is one of the areas the Crites kit has you remove.I filled mine with 1/8" plate and welded it all around plus a couple plug welds!! Finally had a few hours to work on the 65. Welded in my home made shock tower panel and now have to trim the bottom, do some welding and fab up a few more pieces.

Finished driver side and sprayed it with some junk high gloss paint I had lying around. I will clean up the engine compartment when finished and repaint the whole thing,

Re: Finally decided to cut my shock towers.
Finished other side today. Roy, I took our advise and cut at a 120 angle instead of 90. Hard to tell in picture. I did Shelby drop, then started cutting at bottom of old control arm holes. Angled up to leave room for control arms to move. Now I can start installing my new coil over suspension I bought almost a year ago from Street-or-Track.
