PICS of my 62 Comet Custom
PICS of my 62 Comet Custom
Hoping to have figured out how to resize photos and post here...
I purchased this red Comet 2 years ago and have put about $2,000 into it .... runs like a dream... brings back some good ole High School memories of when my twin brother and I purchased our first car....... the blue one. The Blue Comet pic is from 1978 when my twin brother and I purchased it together for $500. The pic is of he and I compounding it right after we got it home. It was a 62 Comet Custom but had bucket seats in it and was totally PIMPED out on the inside. It was a lot of fun. In 2007 my twin brother passed away at the age of 45 and so I decided to purchase this red one to reconnect and keep mine (my) and his memories going!!!
Anyways, its a lot of fun... the red one is a 170 cid, manual 3 speed. The blue one was the merco-matic automatic transmission and probably the 140 cid ??
Thought I would share all this... also... if anyone has any ideas to "name" this vehcile, am open to suggestions!!!
Does anyone know if new holes would need to be drilled to convert the front bench seat to put in bucket seats ?? Just a thought for now...

Re: PICS of my 62 Comet Custom
Yes you would have to drill at least some new holes, there are none in the center of the car. I cannot say for sure if the actual buckets, that fit in these cars, line up with the outer holes but someone will tell usbirdman31 wrote:Does anyone know if new holes would need to be drilled to convert the front bench seat to put in bucket seats ??
I had to smile at this picture, here I am in 1979 doing almost the same thing to my Comet the day (or the day after) I brought it home.birdman31 wrote:The Blue Comet pic is from 1978 when my twin brother and I purchased it together for $500. I would wait to name it for a little while and let it reveal it's name to you, one day you will just call her "Rosy" or something similar and the name will stick
See Ya,
Mike

Thanks Mike.... RIGHT ON! and you nailed it... name will reveal itself!!!
Re: PICS of my 62 Comet Custom
it could be someone else call it a name you like & it will stick. I had a buddy say one day about my old truck,''is that your old paint?'' I knew when he said it that old paint would be it's new name. another time I was with a buddy when he went to buy an old truck. I asked the guy if it had a name he said no.I said what is your name he said Vernon. my buddy & I both said Vern at the same time so that one stuck.Black betty seemed come on the radio everytime I worked on another truck so that stuck. The other day out of the blue I called Pops comet the red rooster in a pm & he liked it. next day he said it stuck. A name will pop up,,might be on tv or phone. & it's ok to use a temporary, until the right one comes along.

I have an orange truck named Punkn ,for a couple of reasons. it's color is one but mainly because my dad had a 74 that was nearly same color & his nickname was Punk which was short for Punkin. also my comet is named Serafina after a girl who kept after me to paint it red & give it to her,,along with a coke machine I have. I told her I'd name it after her after I get home from a cruise in one day & find this pic of her in my car holding up a coke can, on my FB page;

Re: PICS of my 62 Comet Custom
I think I've told this story before, but before you joined the forum, birdman. My first car was a 60 Plymouth 6 cylinder that I desperately wanted to sound like a V8. After making extensive exhaust modifications, it just went BLAAAATT! when I romped down on it. My dad named it The Blat Mobile. Later, I jacked up the rear end with homemade spring shackles, and painted the rear axle fluorescent orange. My dad (again) said it looked like one of those baboons at the zoo with the technicolor rear-ends with a bad case of diaper rash, and dubbed it The Chafed Ape. I repainted the axle black shortly after that, but it was The Chafed Ape till the day I sold it.

That is Hilarious.... the things sometimes our fam/relatives/Dads come up with.... always awesome when it comes from someone else and the "LIGHT" goes off to fit exactly what it should be!!
